A car brand who partners with a fashion designer is maybe not the most obvious collaboration you can think of. But Infiniti went for it! For a special look and feel of their Q50 they asked two famous fashion designers: Zac Posen and Thom Browne. Posen dresses some of today’s hottest celebrities, like Gwyneth Paltrow and Rihanna, and now got the chance, together with his “colleague” Browne, to “dress up a car” instead of famous people. These custom-tailored cars feature elements exclusive to each designer’s aesthetics. An article in The New York Times stated that while Mr. Browne’s reimagination of the Q50 gleamed, Mr. Posen’s tended toward an almost baroque level of intricacy seldom seen since the denouement of the 1970’s. Infiniti presented these two fashion designer-customized Q50s at an event at Infiniti of Manhattan
What will Infiniti do with these limited edition cars? Both cars will travel to five cities as part of a joint marketing program Infiniti has embarked upon with Gilt.com, an online fashion retailer. The Q50s will be shown along with luxury goods in pop-up stores or “concept rooms” also pimped up by the two designers. Browne showed sketches of his room: it featured chrome pillars. At the end of the tour, on December the 12th, the cars will be sold on Gilt.com for 75,000 dollar each, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In addition, buyers will each receive 10,000 dollar of credit on Gilt.com, as well as a style consultation.
